Modeling of Operational Distortion-Rate Characteristics for Joint Source-Channel Coding of Video

چکیده

In this summary we present a method for modeling the distortion-rate characteristics of compressed video sequences. It is assumed that the source coders rely on motion-compensated prediction, and thus error propagation will contribute signiicantly to the degradation of the reconstructed video. Additionally , it is assumed that the information in each video frame can be prioritized and that source coding and channel errors will have more signiicant eeects on higher priority information. It is shown that, through the use of the modeled characteristics , rate can be allocated across frames in a video sequence and then across priority classes within a frame in order to minimize the eeects of error propagation.
